About us

Welcome to the 4th generation
Elixir Aircraft, a company based in La Rochelle, was created in 2015 to meet the challenges of French light aviation. The French SME's objective: to produce safer, more economical, more environmentally-friendly and more versatile aircraft. Today, complexity is the reason why older-generation aircraft suffer from failures (technical or human) and are expensive to operate (fuel consumption and maintenance). Elixir Aircraft uses Carbon Oneshot, a technology derived from competition sailing, to simplify structures. More simplicity means fewer failures, so greater safety, but also less maintenance, and lower costs (estimates of €50/h fuel and maintenance) … At the end of 2021, Elixir Aircraft opened a new production site to internalize all carbon parts production.

Our history

Welcome to the 4th generation
Arthur Léopold Léger, the founder of Elixir Aircraft, grew up between La Trinité-sur-Mer, a hub of sailing, and Dijon Darois, known for general aviation. His father, initially involved in the nautical industry, sailed with the greats before turning to kit aircraft construction in Darois. Arthur, influenced by these two worlds, first pursued a career in offshore racing, building his own boat. After a shipwreck during the Mini Transat in 2013, he decided to shift focus to aviation to address the growing need for modern, environmentally friendly training aircraft.

Together with two friends, he founded Elixir Aircraft, aiming to create more robust, lightweight, and environmentally conscious airplanes. Without financial resources, they developed their project in a garage. In 2017, their aircraft made its first flight. Three weeks later, Arthur undertook his second transatlantic journey.
In 2020, Elixir Aircraft achieved the EASA CS 23 certification, marking a significant milestone. In 2022, the company made its first deliveries. In 2025, Elixir Aircraft received the FAA Part-23 certification. Today, Elixir Aircraft continues to grow, combining innovation and environmental respect, drawing inspiration from the values of the nautical world.

3 complementary co-founders

Elixir Aircraft was created by the coming together of three very complementary profiles with the idea of designing a new 4th generation part-23 aircraft (EASA CS23 and FAA Part-23 certified) in order to meet the challenges of today’s general aviation.

A multi-skilled leader

Arthur has always been a passionate person. From professional level sailing to flying, his multifaceted experiences have enabled him to build up a vast amount of knowledge. First, he is highly skilled skipper. For six years he concentrated on preparing for the Mini-Transat, a solo crossing of the Atlantic. He built his sailing boat using state-of-the-art materials and technologies, notably from composite. Having passed his pilot license at the age of 16, Arthur is a well-seasoned pilot. Between test flights and deliveries of various aircraft all over Europe, as well as flights on behalf of his former customers, he has accumulated over a 1000 hours of flying.

Beyond his passion for piloting and sailing, Arthur is also a technician. He was educated as an aerospace engineer at Kingston University near London and holds an aeronautical maintenance national license (LNMA). In the past ten years Arthur has assembled around thirty aircraft; he has also been responsible for follow-up work on over 100 other aircraft, this helping him gather the best and widest knowledge of the market expectations and needs.

With the fulfilment of his many projects Arthur was convinced he was cut out to create his own company. Surfing on the borders of sailing and aviation, he was convinced incorporating his knowledge of the composite technologies and advancements made in competitive sail boat manufacturing was the best way to do so.

An aeronautical engineer, with a skill for sales and marketing

Cyril Champenois is the Marketing & Sales Manager. Cyril met Arthur in the early 2000s while studying aerospace engineering at Kingston University in London. After graduation, he worked in marketing and sales for Dassault Systemes. For five years, he spent most of his time traveling the world, meeting with companies in the aerospace and defense sector. From Boeing to Airbus, from Dassault Aviation to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), Cyril had the opportunity to learn how to manage complex sales projects and understand industrial processes. Cyril has met many executives from the aerospace and defense industry, and he brings his network to Elixir Aircraft. He is responsible for the successful marketing of the Elixir, as well as the EASA approval of the production organization.

An experienced design office manager with outstanding technical skills

Born with the passion for planes and engineering, Nicolas naturally chose to become an engineer and studied aeronautical mechanical system design in Toulouse. Where after receiving his degree he then joined the DYNAERO Company, where he achieved his training as a versatile aeronautical engineer. For 15 years there he took part in designing and bringing to life some of the highest performance aircraft on the market, working across different departments such as research and development, production and after salesoperations.

During this time Nicolas also became a seasoned glider pilot keen on competitions and long range cross-country flights. As a pilot instructor he was passionate in sharing his know-how and his experience. Nicolas is Microlight Aircraft pilot and soon to become a plane pilot, he holds a national license in aeronautical maintenance and for more than 10 years and was the maintenance manager the Dijon glider club.

His technical skills and passion made him the perfect third co-founder for Elixir Aircraft. With the help of his design office team, he was able to design the Elixir in 2 years and certify it in 3 years. The fact that Nicolas is the only engineer in the world capable of mastering the entire development process of a OneShot aircraft, from design to production and certification, deserves to be highlighted.
